Braintree - Customer Case Study

Braintree, a Chicago-based payments company recently acquired by PayPal, needed a way to coordinate engineering work across small, distributed teams while shipping client and server SDKs and running a private beta for its v.zero Payments API. The challenge was to create a developer-native workflow that supported inter-organizational collaboration, beta feedback, and public SDK distribution without slowing release velocity.

Braintree adopted GitHub organizations, inter-org repositories, pull requests, team permissions and GitHub Releases to centralize development, add beta participants directly to repos, and accept external contributions. The result was a more modern engineering culture, faster, centralized collaboration between offices and PayPal, direct beta feedback, smoother public SDK and documentation releases, and greater transparency into their development work.
