Leading Wireless Provider Reduces Support Costs with Gigamon Visibility Fabric Architecture

A leading Tier 1 wireless provider modernized its 3G core while deploying 4G LTE, increasing port speeds and capacity to support more subscribers and MVNO partners. This growth outpaced its monitoring infrastructure: the NOC needed to capture, aggregate, filter and forward traffic from many 1Gb/10Gb links to tools across 100+ sites and scale visibility without impacting production operations.

The company deployed Gigamon’s Visibility Fabric—TAPs plus GigaVUE-420 and GigaVUE-HD8 fabric nodes with Flow Mapping and a cross-box stack managed via H-VUE—to centralize and scale traffic monitoring. The solution delivered link-level visibility, cut MTTR by an order of magnitude, lowered support costs and churn, enabled seamless MVNO expansion, and produced anticipated peering revenue and savings of about $25M per year (tens of millions in total).
