A Gigamon Case Study
One of the largest U.S. investment and insurance firms that serves millions of customers faced a growing visibility problem: a complex, mission‑critical network with more than a dozen disparate monitoring tools and many TAPs that the incumbent physical matrix switch (limited to eight Gigabit ports) could no longer interconnect. The company needed a flexible, scalable, and secure way to aggregate and distribute traffic so security and operations teams could access the right data without port contention or risky “shopping cart” troubleshooting.
They deployed the Gigamon GigaVUE Traffic Visibility Node in the DMZ to provide aggregation, replication and filtering of traffic, enabling 18 monitoring tools (IDS, sniffers, recorders, QRadar, Niksun, Vontu, Tealeaf, etc.) to monitor nine full‑duplex links. The result: eliminated port contention, centralized and controlled tool access, hot‑swap flexibility to connect or disconnect tools without disrupting production, better utilization of legacy investments, streamlined operations, and a scalable platform ready for future 10G growth.
