Cardinal Health, a global healthcare services and products company, needed stronger visibility into network traffic to protect sensitive data and meet HIPAA/HITECH and other compliance requirements. They faced challenges with packet analysis, port conflicts, reliably routing TAP/SPAN traffic to monitoring tools, and maintaining visibility during a multi-year migration to a 40Gb data center network.

Cardinal deployed the Gigamon Visibility Platform—adding GigaVUE-HD4, TA and HB1 nodes with GigaSMART tunneling—and integrated it with tools from Palo Alto Networks and Viavi. The solution centralized and duplicated traffic to security, voice-recording and performance tools, enabling faster issue resolution, confirmed traffic routing and metrics, reduced tool sprawl and costs, and sustained compliance and visibility during the network upgrade.
