A Gigamon Case Study
A European-based global service provider serving 300 million customers across 20 countries faced a budget crisis building a new data center: the original design required an intrusion prevention system inline on each of 22 x 10Gb firewall links, a cost-prohibitive approach that forced the RFP to be canceled.
The provider implemented a Gigamon Visibility Fabric to aggregate traffic from multiple links and forward it to a centralized, shared IPS farm with load balancing, N+1 redundancy and bypass protection. The new design eliminated the one-to-one IPS requirement, supported scaling to double the links, enabled additional monitoring features (NetFlow, SSL decryption), and cut total project cost to about $1M—approximately a 75% reduction in CAPEX while also lowering ongoing OPEX.
