Case Study: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services achieves TIC-compliant cybersecurity and pervasive network visibility with Gigamon Visibility Platform

A Gigamon Case Study

The Department of Health and Human Services Meets Cybersecurity Initiative Requirements with Help from Gigamon

The HHS Computer Security Incident Response Center (CSIRC) is responsible for department-wide cybersecurity and for meeting strict NIST, US‑CERT and DHS Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) requirements across geographically dispersed divisions (CDC, FDA, NIH, CMS, etc.). CSIRC needed an out‑of‑band, high‑performance solution to aggregate and deliver traffic for malware analysis, packet capture, IDS/IPS and other monitoring tools across multiple 1Gb and 10Gb networks without impacting production performance.

CSIRC deployed the Gigamon Visibility Platform (with partner BAI Federal) to replicate, filter and forward the right traffic to each security and monitoring tool. The platform provided pervasive visibility, heartbeat failover and the ability to extend 1Gb tools into 10Gb environments, enabling centralized “watching the watchers,” compliance with TIC requirements, faster incident response and better use of existing security investments while preparing CSIRC for future cloud and 10Gb expansions.
