Nvm Express needed to evaluate how NVMe storage could deliver better performance while preserving the flexibility of shared, composable infrastructure. GigaIO’s FabreX native PCIe network and composable architecture were used to compare direct-attached storage, composed storage, and NVMe-oF configurations with U.2 SSDs.

GigaIO implemented a FabreX PCIe Network fabric with a 1U server and JBOF storage, plus a second composed server for the NVMe-oF target setup. The results showed 4.0 MB/sec read bandwidth for the converged DAS configuration versus 4.8 MB/sec for both FabreX composed storage and NVMe-oF, a 20% performance improvement while delivering NAS-like sharing and flexibility.
