Low Latency Memory Fabric Powers Next Generation AI and HPC Prototype National Research Platform

San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), part of UC San Diego, needed a flexible cyberinfrastructure platform to support data-intensive science, AI, and HPC research across multiple domains, from astrophysics and molecular dynamics to health sciences and wildfire response. To meet this challenge, SDSC chose GigaIO and its FabreX™ memory fabric platform to help combine GPUs, FPGAs, storage, and compute resources into a highly usable, reconfigurable system.

GigaIO implemented the Prototype National Research Platform (PNRP) using a low-latency composable disaggregated architecture connecting 64 NVIDIA FP64 GPUs, 32 Xilinx Alveo FPGAs, NVMe storage, and x86 compute servers. The result was significantly higher resource utilization, lower costs, and faster research workflows, with the flexibility to support distinct workloads on the same infrastructure and simplify future upgrades at the component level.
