FabreX™ PCIe Network Delivers Lower Latency and Higher Bandwidth than InfiniBand

Nvm Express was evaluating how to get NVMe storage performance and flexibility without sacrificing latency or bandwidth. The organization worked with GigaIO and its FabreX PCIe Network fabric to compare converged storage, composed storage, and NVMe-oF configurations across different interconnects.

GigaIO implemented FabreX-based composable infrastructure with Intel Optane and NVMe-oF, benchmarked with FIO, and found performance essentially on par across DAS, composed, and NVMe-oF setups. The results showed up to 26.5 GB/sec bandwidth, no bandwidth penalty for FabreX NVMe-oF versus converged or composed configurations, and significantly lower latency—over 60% lower than NVMe-oF over InfiniBand and over 70% lower compared with SSDs in the tested setup.
