The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - Customer Case Study

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the largest teaching hospital trust in the UK, faced costly and inefficient manual supply chain processes, including handwritten requisitions, inventory waste, and poor visibility across its procurement operations. Working with GHX and its GHX exchange/catalyzed data standards program, the Trust needed to streamline purchasing, improve data accuracy, and reduce the burden on staff while supporting better patient care.

GHX helped Leeds implement electronic procurement, catalog and contract management, and inventory automation using GS1 standards, GLNs, GTINs, and integrated systems linked to Oracle. As a result, Leeds now processes 94% of stock orders electronically, reduced invoice/purchase order discrepancies by 45%, cut inventory at one hospital by 39% for a £500,000 saving, and improved stock control while freeing nurses to spend more time on patient care.
