Froedtert Health, in collaboration with vendor GHX, faced a challenge automating its high-dollar, bill-only implant orders. A review of supplier scorecards revealed a major discrepancy in electronic data interchange (EDI) rates, which was traced back to these complex orders. The manual process was inefficient, required handling protected health information (PHI), and involved numerous staff from both the health system and its suppliers, leading to errors and delays.
The solution implemented with GHX involved using the GHX Exchange to automate the transactions. By agreeing with a supplier on a minimum data set that used a sales order number instead of PHI, they created a seamless electronic process from their respective ERP systems. This GHX solution resulted in a 54% increase in the EDI rate for these orders and a 465% increase in volume within six months. It also eliminated manual work, drastically reduced processing time from weeks to hours, and improved overall invoice accuracy.
