A Gexcon Case Study
Jotun, a global leader in paints and coatings, needed to demonstrate that its Jotachar JF750 XT intumescent coating could protect structural steel under an extreme jet fire scenario, as defined by the new ISO 22899-3 standard. The challenge was to validate that the coating could withstand a severe 350 kW/m² heat flux for over 70 minutes while keeping the steel temperature safely below 400°C, requiring a technically demanding and independently witnessed test.
Gexcon designed and executed a high heat-flux jet fire test in full compliance with the ISO standard at its facility in Norway. The results were exceptional: the coating kept the steel temperature well below the safety limit, reaching only 225°C at the 70-minute mark and remaining below 350°C even after a 100-minute exposure. This successful test, independently witnessed, provided Jotun with the hard evidence needed for product certification by Lloyds Register and strengthened technical documentation for its customers.
