Infrastructure Refresh that Included a Hosted Desktop Service

Kent County Council Commercial Services needed to refresh its IT infrastructure, including storage, VM hosts, and Windows Terminal Services servers, while also finding a way to offer a hosted desktop service to public and private sector customers. Getronics was chosen as the vendor and partner for the project.

Getronics implemented a resilient solution using two data centres, Oracle-supplied storage and servers, and Secure Global Desktop for remote access from any internet-connected device. Getronics also provided managed services for the hardware and Solaris/Sun Ray software. The results included lower costs through shared resources, flexible pay-as-you-go service options, scalable and resilient delivery, and reduced IT management overhead, with early benefits already seen by Tenterden Junior School.
