A GEP Case Study
A $1.2 billion Michigan-based footwear and apparel firm faced an excessively large supplier base, unleveraged spend and declining service levels as it expanded in wholesale, e-commerce and brick-and-mortar channels. With nearly $300 million in procurement to manage, the company partnered with GEP on a five-year strategic sourcing and technology program to regain control and drive bottom-line savings.
GEP deployed a systematic sourcing process — benchmarking and market analysis, RFP development, supplier evaluation and negotiations, TCO analysis, and procure-to-pay improvements — and used its RFx tool to isolate cost drivers and run live supplier auctions. The program consolidated suppliers, improved spend transparency and service, and delivered $4 million in savings in six months, on track for $14 million in year one and an estimated $37.5 million over the life of the engagement.
