A GEP Case Study
A global Fortune 100 retailer with more than 11,000 stores sought to gain visibility and control over indirect spend in Japan (about 500 stores) after prior eAuction attempts failed due to poor usability, low adoption and weak strategy. The company needed a partner to define eAuction strategies, deploy an advanced tool and train its procurement team to capture faster, repeatable savings.
GEP deployed GEP SMART, customized it for local language, trained 25+ sourcing managers and ran a rapid cadence of events (90+ in 2020, some with five‑day lead times). The program managed $144M of spend—exceeding a $120M target—delivering $33.6M in annual savings (23% of indirect spend) and an additional 8% savings over RFP outcomes; the retailer’s regional team can now run eAuctions independently and the program is being scaled across other regions.
