TNO extensively uses Isatis for three-dimensional modelling of the upper 30 meters of the Dutch subsurface

TNO worked with Geovariances and used Isatis to support the development of a 3D geological model of the upper 30 meters of the Dutch subsurface. The main challenge was creating an automated workflow that would minimize the effort needed to rerun and update the model for groundwater and infrastructure-related applications.

Geovariances helped TNO build a workflow in Isatis, managed through Excel and VB macros, to run geostatistical simulations and create a 3D facies model from well data and stratigraphic surfaces. The result was a detailed regional-scale model of the Zeeland area, including a 50 million-cell lithofacies model and probability maps for stratigraphy and facies, giving TNO better insight into subsurface connectivity and model uncertainty.
