A Geovariances Case Study
Repsol, the Spain-based global energy company, needed Geovariances to help improve reservoir modeling in complex environments. Their Reservoir Modeling Group wanted new methodologies to account for dynamic data in static models and strengthen model quality control, using Geovariances’ Isatis capabilities in geostatistics and related modeling workflows.
Geovariances developed and implemented new workflows to check hydraulic connections between wells, characterize permeable pathways, and rank geostatistical seismic inversion results. It also created a methodology using border effects and transition probabilities analysis to validate sedimentological models and their impact on petrophysical parameter distribution. These semi-automatic procedures improved the global quality of Repsol’s models and helped the team integrate multiple data sources more consistently, while also boosting internal knowledge of stochastic modeling and connectivity issues.
