Suncor, then operating as Petro-Canada and now part of Suncor Energy, used Geovariances’ Isatis software for a high-resolution 3D geological modeling project of its oil sands mining property. The company needed a solution that could handle tens of millions of cells, support sophisticated geostatistical routines, and enable stochastic modeling to generate multiple realizations for uncertainty evaluation.

Geovariances’ Isatis provided the needed geostatistical tools, large-scale modeling capacity, and multi-platform support across Unix, Linux, and Windows. With 64-bit capability and multithreading, Suncor completed a very large stochastic model within a tight timeframe, and the company reported strong satisfaction with Geovariances’ technical support, knowledge, and timely patches. Suncor later acquired a second license, indicating continued use of the solution.
