Case Study: IFREMER achieves improved bathymorphological and geomorphological mapping with Isatis by Geovariances

A Geovariances Case Study

Preview of the Ifremer Lemar Case Study

IFREMER uses ISATIS to generate bathymorphological and geomorphological maps

Ifremer Lemar used Geovariances’ Isatis software to support the CoralFISH project, which aimed to improve habitat knowledge on the northern margin of the Bay of Biscay. The challenge was to integrate data from multiple scientific disciplines and identify sectors and specific geological structures for bathymorphological and geomorphological mapping.

Geovariances implemented Isatis-based geostatistical and morphological workflows, including custom plugins for slope calculation and drainage network extraction, to combine multibeam bathymetry with existing DTM data. The solution improved the DTM by filtering residual artifacts with factorial kriging and enabled automated identification and classification of canyons, thalwegs, and other geomorphological features, producing detailed maps for the study areas.
