A Geovariances Case Study
EDF CIDEN partnered with Geovariances to improve characterization of radiological and chemical contamination in nuclear decommissioning projects. The team needed a better way to analyze complex 3D site data, identify uncertainties, and support rehabilitation planning with more reliable risk and cost assessments, using Geovariances’ Kartotrak software.
Geovariances implemented a guided proof of concept and then broader use of Kartotrak, which provided 3D visualization, georeferencing, exploratory data analysis, variogram modeling, and estimation maps. The software helped EDF CIDEN detect a database error, better interpret pollutant relationships, estimate uncertain areas and impacted soil volumes, and evaluate remediation scenarios; as a result, EDF CIDEN acquired Kartotrak and trained seven staff members, with further work now underway.
