Ideal Plumbing, a San Diego–area service company with a 30‑truck fleet covering a very large territory, needed better oversight of vehicle use and driver behavior because technicians have round‑the‑clock access to company vehicles. Management wanted to reduce unsafe driving, unnecessary idling and after‑hours or excessive vehicle use while improving overall efficiency.

The company implemented a Geotab telematics system that provides real‑time tracking and a dashboard of metrics (speed, acceleration, idle time, harsh braking/cornering) plus an in‑cab audible alert for speeds over 73 mph. Managers can monitor trends while drivers receive individual performance reports for coaching; results include reduced speeding, improved fuel economy, less wear and tear, fewer inappropriate trips and measurable driver performance gains.
