A Geotab Case Study
Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is a multinational energy infrastructure project building an 870+ km natural gas pipeline across Greece, Albania and under the Adriatic to Italy. Managing a +1,500‑vehicle fleet with some 2,500 drivers speaking multiple languages across remote, temperature‑extreme terrain created major operational challenges: diverse vehicle types and ages, varying driver skill, inconsistent GSM coverage, inaccurate public mapping, and strict EU data/security and access requirements.
TAP deployed Geotab’s GO7 hardware (NFC Driver‑ID plus Iridium satellite backup), a Belgium‑hosted central database, Journey Management Centres in Thessaloniki and Tirana, and GIS‑integrated MyGeotab rules (speed, driving time, seat‑belt alerts) with ~1,800 custom zones via Zenduit. The solution enabled driver‑level tracking, in‑cab alerts, tailored reporting and targeted training; results include milestone safety achievements (15 million kilometres without a serious road accident in Jan 2017 and 38.6 million km by Sept 2017), improved incident response in GSM‑dead areas, and better driver performance management toward TAP’s zero‑casualty goal.
