A Geotab Case Study
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue program, collecting perishable donations from restaurants and small grocers and delivering them to shelters across Toronto. With a fleet of seven refrigerated trucks and a van rescuing over 7.4 million pounds of food last year, the organization sought to boost fleet productivity, reduce waste and operating costs, and make the most of every donated dollar.
Geotab provided donated telematics hardware, software and consulting to track vehicles and drivers, enabling smarter dispatching and monitoring. In the first year Second Harvest cut idle time per vehicle by 30.8%, reduced top speeds 7%, increased stops 7.6% and distance driven per day 4.5%, and recovered a record 600,000 pounds of food during a peak period—while lowering fuel costs, improving safety and generating sponsor-ready efficiency data.
