New Brunswick Power builds business case for fleet migration to electric vehicles

New Brunswick Power (NB Power) launched the Shift Your Ride program to build a business case for migrating light-duty municipal vehicles to electric power. Facing a small, dispersed fleet, harsh winter conditions and the need for federal, provincial and municipal buy‑in, NB Power required reliable, per‑vehicle and fleet‑level estimates of cost savings, emissions reductions and operational performance to prove EVs could meet service requirements.

Geotab performed Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessments (EVSAs) using telematics and physics‑based EV modeling to match EVs to real driving cycles and quantify costs, range and charging feasibility. The analysis showed 94% of duty cycles and 91% of range requirements could be met, with a potential 95% reduction in fuel consumption, a 94% cut in greenhouse gases (2,123,710 kg CO2) and estimated savings of $11,735 CAD per vehicle (about $1.09M CAD fleet‑wide) over a seven‑year service life.
