Madrid City Council taps into EV data for sustainability right-sizing

Madrid City Council participated in the EU-funded CIVITAS ECCENTRIC program to test sustainable urban mobility measures and deployed Measure 6.2 to electrify part of its municipal fleet. The Council’s challenge was to evaluate the environmental performance of 19 Renault ZOE light-duty vehicles, understand charging and range behavior, and optimize daily logistics and fleet sizing while comparing EVs with combustion vehicles.

Geotab provided GO telematics devices and the MyGeotab platform to capture distance, energy use, state of charge, range and other EV metrics. With this data Madrid can balance vehicle use, detect maintenance issues, manage charging to avoid peak times, plan fleet growth and driver safety improvements—and has already cut CO2 emissions by 60% (nearly 1 tonne per month) across the 19‑vehicle fleet.
