Fueliner, a Dubuque, Iowa petroleum delivery company with a 39-vehicle fleet (including 15 tankers and 6 straight delivery trucks across four locations), faced mounting safety and compliance challenges after a 2009 rollover revealed a pattern of hard stops and brakes. Lacking timely visibility into driver behavior and Hours of Service (HOS) data, the company needed a way to spot risky driving before small events led to major incidents.

Fueliner implemented Geotab telematics, giving drivers a visual HOS interface, real-time location and dispatch tools, and detailed event reporting used for coaching rather than punishment. The results included a drop in one driver’s events from 130 to 30 over 60 days, easy proof of HOS compliance during a DOT audit, successful defense in a liability case, and about $177,000 in annual insurance savings with no premium increase for five years—plus improved idling, timecard and maintenance tracking.
