Franklin County Engineer's Office - Customer Case Study

Franklin County (Ohio) Engineer’s Office, a government fleet of roughly 176 vehicles, had used Geotab telematics for a decade to support winter operations and resource tracking. The team then focused on improving driver safety to support the City of Columbus’ Vision Zero goals but needed a way to identify who was driving each vehicle and monitor risky behaviors like speeding, harsh braking and seatbelt use.

The office enabled MyGeotab Driver ID fobs and set tight alerts for speeding, seatbelts and idling, combined with customized, vehicle-class reporting. The change quickly returned driver behavior to safer norms, provided hard data for coaching and awards, and gave fleet managers clear, actionable insights—separating opinion from fact and improving accountability across the mixed fleet.
