DC Water, which operates the world’s largest wastewater treatment facility and a mixed utility fleet of 610 vehicles plus about 1,200 pieces of equipment, needed a better way to monitor driver safety and vehicle health across a complex, public-facing operation. Fleet Director Timothy Fitzgerald sought metrics that would let the agency manage risk, improve service delivery, and integrate with existing fleet software.

By adopting Geotab’s plug-and-play telematics, DC Water gained integrated, customizable dashboards and driver- and vehicle-level data that enabled predictive maintenance, clearer KPIs, and departmental accountability. The system improved driver communication and safety—reducing tickets, accidents, and harsh vehicle use—while helping forecast breakdowns and avoid related costs, with ongoing support from a reseller to explore future enhancements.
