A Geotab Case Study
The City of Seattle, with a 4,100-vehicle fleet, set goals to cut carbon emissions 50% by 2025 and be fossil-fuel free by 2030. To meet those targets the fleet needed reliable telematics to measure vehicle miles, routes and EV electricity use (kWh) and to identify which internal combustion vehicles could be swapped for electrics, so leadership chose Geotab for its EV-ready reporting.
Geotab delivered accurate kWh reporting, utilization, idling and speeding monitoring, and optimized routing, enabling data-driven vehicle replacement decisions and wider electrification (about 12% BEVs and 16% hybrid/PHEV). The system improved utilization and safety oversight, strengthened CO2 reporting, and drove significant savings—about $2M in fuel saved versus $100K spent on electricity—helping the city advance its sustainability targets.
