A Geotab Case Study
The City of Kelowna’s water testing and meter-reading crews faced a safety and compliance challenge: technicians work alone in highly variable daily locations that can shift from urban to remote in minutes, and the department relied on cumbersome paper sign-in sheets and CB radios that were inefficient and unreliable for meeting provincial and federal lone-worker requirements.
The city replaced the manual system with the Ok Alone app on technicians’ phones, delivering quick risk assessments, automated check-ins, man-down and help alerts, and after-hours monitoring—improving safety and compliance almost immediately. Integrating Ok Alone with Geotab telematics added dispatching, route tracking, and consolidated location and safety visibility, boosting operational efficiency, aiding new-employee training, and enabling future driver- and idling-score programs for further safety and emissions benefits.
