A Geotab Case Study
Arlington County, VA, manages a diverse fleet of roughly 475 vehicles across a dense 26-square-mile jurisdiction and struggled with aging infrastructure, frequent severe weather, and fragmented fleet tracking. Operations were largely run from spreadsheets and multiple GPS systems that couldn’t identify drivers or provide the multi-tiered visibility needed for effective snow removal, contractor billing, and broader operational planning.
In 2016 Arlington deployed Geotab (MyGeotab, Geotab GO, Driver Safety Scorecard), an easy-to-install telematics suite that delivered about 10% cost savings plus real-time engine diagnostics, preventative maintenance alerts, automated reporting, and driver safety enforcement. The system improved snow-plow tracking and contractor billing, boosted fuel and repair cost monitoring, enabled benchmarking and faster investigations, and opened new applications (salt/brine reporting, plow/spreader and street sweeper monitoring) that enhanced overall operational visibility and efficiency.
