Hermes needed a better way to manage its highly granular courier network, which spans about 10,000 couriers across 1.8 million postcode units. The company wanted to shift day-to-day network management into the field, give Field Management clearer visibility of territory structure, and replace a slow, manual desktop process that relied on outdated hard-copy maps.
Geoplan delivered a web-based mapping solution for creating, viewing, organising, and managing courier rounds, including viewing, planning/operations, and scenario-planning tools. With Geoplan, Hermes enabled 200 Field Managers to make local changes and get approvals in minutes, while central operations could model “what if?” scenarios and optimise the network. The result was improved efficiency, reduced delivery and re-handling costs, better first-attempt deliveries, and daily automatic network updates across 100% of the network.
