Case Study: City Council of Aretxabaleta achieves precise 3D mapping of an underground stream with Geograma

A Geograma Case Study

Preview of the City Council of Aretxabaleta Case Study

City Council of Aretxabaleta maps an underground stream with Geograma, delivering cross-sections every 20 meters

The City Council of Aretxabaleta faced the challenge of accurately mapping a difficult-to-access underground stream beneath its urban infrastructure. Traditional surveying methods were insufficient for capturing the complex geometry of the conduit. Geograma was engaged to perform a detailed 3D capture and modeling of the stream to create a reliable technical basis for future urban planning.

Geograma’s solution combined LiDAR drone inspection with high-precision terrestrial laser scanning using Leica RTC360 scanners. This approach provided a complete georeferenced 3D model of the underground stream and its surface alignment. The results for the City Council included a complete 3D point cloud, integrated municipal mapping, detailed profiles, and a web-based visualization environment via GeoCassini. This provided an improved geometric understanding of the asset and enabled its coherent integration into the city’s planning systems.
