MultiChoice Combats Piracy and Ensures Content License Compliance with GeoGuard

MultiChoice Group, Africa’s leading entertainment company behind DStv, GOtv, Showmax and DStv streaming, needed to protect its OTT sports and premium entertainment content from piracy while complying with territorial licensing restrictions. The company also faced account sharing and suspicious account creation, which increased infrastructure costs and affected the experience for paying subscribers. GeoComply’s GeoGuard VPN and Proxy detection was used to help address these issues.

GeoComply implemented GeoGuard through Amazon CloudFront, giving MultiChoice a fast, seamless “turn on and go” deployment integrated with its streaming platform. The solution now blocks tens of thousands of pirate viewers each month, has nearly eliminated suspicious account creation, and has freed up infrastructure capacity so MultiChoice can support more concurrent streams—more than doubling capacity for live events while improving QoE for legitimate users.
