Case Study: Concho Valley Council of Governments improves school 9-1-1 location accuracy with GeoComm

CVCOG maps 9-1-1 school interiors with GeoComm for 15 PSAPs across 16,300 square miles

The Concho Valley Council of Governments (CVCOG), a provider of emergency communications services in West Texas, faced the challenge of a statewide lack of indoor GIS maps for buildings, which are critical for school safety. Partnering with vendor GeoComm, they engaged in a proof-of-concept project to address this gap by focusing on high schools as high-priority locations.

GeoComm collaborated with CVCOG and Mason High School to implement a crowdsourcing solution for indoor map development. The project successfully tested the accurate mapping and pinpointing of 9-1-1 calls from inside the school, demonstrating a viable new method for creating the essential GIS data needed to enhance emergency response.
