City of Austin, Texas improves CAD routing with GeoComm by straightening road segments

The City of Austin, Texas was experiencing difficulties with the spoken vehicle routing directions provided by their Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to mobile units. Their main challenge was correcting inaccurate GIS data for dual carriageway streets, which caused confusing "pinched" road segments. They enlisted the vendor, GeoComm, to assist with this public safety GIS data project.

GeoComm completed spatial and attribute updates to the city's Road Centerline Layer, straightening the problematic road segments into parallel, "ladder-like" lines. This solution directly improved the accuracy and clarity of the vehicle routing directions provided by the CAD system to first responders in the field.
