A Gensler Case Study
West Edge, a mixed-use development in Los Angeles, faced the challenge of creating a community hub that would leverage the city's expanding Metro rail network and move beyond its car-centric culture. The developer worked with vendor Gensler to design a transit-oriented development that would connect people and improve commutes.
Gensler's solution was to design West Edge as a connected neighborhood hub adjacent to the Expo Line, featuring terraced massing that unites apartments, creative office space, and retail amenities. The project strategically incorporated multiple transit options, including cycling, bus, metro rail, and pedestrian access. As a result, West Edge sets a precedent for urban density in LA, with its vibrant plaza hosting community events and fostering new connections among residents and visitors. The development includes 558,000 square feet of apartments and 150,000 square feet of creative office space.
