Vornado Realty Trust transforms The Mart with Gensler, adding 50,000 square feet of amenities

Vornado Realty Trust, the owner and operator of the architectural icon The Mart in Chicago, partnered with the design firm Gensler to reposition the massive property. Their challenge was to transform the historic Art Deco building into a modern destination that could attract and retain tenants by reimagining the workplace to support a more balanced and collaborative lifestyle.

Gensler implemented a solution focused on human-centered amenities, significantly enhancing the second floor with 50,000 square feet of new facilities. These included a conference center, a health center, and a tenant-exclusive speakeasy, all connected to community-focused areas. The project also added a new public River Park with outdoor seating. As a result, Gensler helped Vornado successfully reposition The Mart as a vibrant hub for community engagement, creativity, and collaboration, making it a destination that defines a new ethos for how we work.
