University of Washington opens $60 million basketball training facility with Gensler

The University of Washington needed a new basketball training facility to enhance student-athlete performance and serve as a recruiting tool, with dedicated and equal spaces for both its women’s and men’s programs. They partnered with the architecture and design firm Gensler to address this challenge.

Gensler designed a 36,000-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified facility featuring two full-size practice courts, a central spine for support services, and a skywalk viewing mezzanine. This Gensler solution created an equitable, high-performance environment that has transformed the trajectory of both basketball programs. The $60 million, fully donor-funded project has significantly strengthened recruiting outcomes and fostered deeper team cohesion, establishing a new competitive standard.
