Reno-Tahoe International Airport cuts energy use 50% with Gensler

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport faced the challenge of surging passenger demand and aging 1980s-era infrastructure that could no longer meet modern expectations. The airport needed a future-ready solution to elevate traveler and airline experiences while expanding revenue. They engaged the architecture firm Gensler to design new concourses.

Gensler's solution was to design two new, all-electric concourses with 24 gates, inspired by the Sierra Nevada landscape. The results included a 50% reduction in energy use intensity, a 77% reduction in water consumption, and a vastly improved passenger experience with more lounge space, concessions, and inclusive amenities. The project by Gensler successfully transformed the airport into a sustainable and modern gateway.
