FNB Financial Center opens 26-story tower and 1.36-acre green space with Gensler

First National Bank (FNB) Financial Center, a new commercial anchor for Pittsburgh, faced the challenge of revitalizing the city's Lower Hill District after the demolition of the Civic Arena left acres of vacant land. The goal was to create a catalytic project that would spark economic activity and reconnect a neighborhood with a rich history. The vendor, Gensler, provided architecture, interior design, and strategy services to address this.

Gensler's solution was to design a 26-story, 520,000-square-foot office tower with hospitality-inspired amenities and 1.36 acres of new public green space. The impact was significant, establishing a new commercial anchor that generated thousands of jobs and significant tax revenue. Over $50 million was directed to minority and women-owned businesses during construction. The project successfully repositioned the Lower Hill District as a renewed engine of opportunity for the city.
