DignityMoves creates 40 permanent homes for Oakland seniors with Gensler

The customer, DignityMoves, faced the urgent challenge of providing housing for the fastest-growing segment of California's homeless population: seniors. Many were experiencing homelessness for the first time later in life and required permanent, dignified housing solutions with supportive services to live independently.

Gensler partnered with DignityMoves to design and deliver Brookfield Senior Gardens, a 40-unit permanent supportive housing project. The solution utilized locally-manufactured volumetric modular construction to create a community with private and social outdoor spaces, including a sensory garden. The impact was profound, providing chronically homeless seniors with a permanent home and wraparound support, changing their lives. Gensler's design, funded through California’s Homekey+ program, created a dignified and lasting place for residents to belong.
