Case Study: Delta Air Lines creates a more seamless passenger journey with Gensler's Delta Sky Way at LAX

A Gensler Case Study

Preview of the Delta Air Lines Case Study

Delta Air Lines completes a $2.3 billion LAX Sky Way upgrade with Gensler

The customer, Delta Air Lines, faced the challenge of improving the overwhelming and often confusing passenger experience at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Their unlinked Terminals 2 and 3 created a fragmented journey. They partnered with the vendor Gensler to renovate and unify these terminals, aiming to create a more intuitive and calming travel process.

Gensler's solution, the Delta Sky Way, streamlined the arrival process by connecting the terminals and creating a centralized headhouse for ticketing and security. The design incorporated intuitive wayfinding, circadian rhythm lighting, and locally-inspired elements. This resulted in an eased passenger experience, minimized confusion, and eliminated the need for buses between terminals. The project also positioned Delta for future success, notably ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
