A Gensler Case Study
The Archdiocese of New York faced the challenge of modernizing its headquarters to unify its operations and support contemporary ways of working, while still preserving its strong identity and heritage. They engaged the architecture and design firm Gensler to create a new workplace that would prioritize wellness and flexibility.
Gensler's solution was to design a new headquarters in a landmarked modernist building adjacent to St. Patrick's Cathedral. The design incorporates ecclesiastical aesthetics within a contemporary framework, using colors and patinas inspired by the cathedral. The resulting light-filled, open-plan office provides a tranquil workplace and community hub, strengthening the Archdiocese's operational foundation and civic presence while setting a new precedent for religious workplaces.
