Accurate, Controlled Test Data for Credit Card Testing

Major Financial Services Company, which manages billions in assets and millions of credit card accounts, needed to eliminate the risk of exposing sensitive customer data during testing while supporting a continuous pipeline of credit-card-related software changes. They required secure, synthetic test data in multiple file formats (ASCII, EBCDIC, Parquet, JSON, AVRO) and across databases (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, Snowflake), with precise control over record counts, field delimiters (e.g., \x001/^A) and realistic values for names, SSNs and credit card numbers. To meet these requirements they ran a Proof of Concept with GenRocket’s Test Data Automation platform.

GenRocket delivered an automated solution that imports DDL/data models, configures reusable data generators and pairs them with receivers to output the required formats — including two POC-built receivers for IBM EBCDIC and Parquet. The platform’s >250 data generators (including 7 for credit cards) and >50 receivers produced realistic, Mod-10-valid card numbers, controlled parent/child relationships and exact field delimiters, eliminating manual production scrubbing. The POC was highly successful: GenRocket enabled secure, on-demand test data provisioning with greater data quality, test coverage and faster delivery, allowing the company to test at the speed of development.
