CBS and Genius Win Sports Emmy for RomoVision

CBS wanted a way to make Tony Romo’s live NFL analysis more visual, engaging, and easier for fans to understand during broadcasts. To do that, CBS partnered with Genius Sports and used its Second Spectrum technology to combine live Next Gen Stats data with live video.

Genius Sports launched RomoVision on first replays in November 2021, turning complex plays into Madden-style visuals, player-by-player movement breakdowns, and clearer storytelling for younger and more casual viewers. After just one season, the feature won the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award at the Sports Emmys, highlighting Genius Sports’ impact on broadcast innovation and fan engagement.
