Univali creates grades and attendance application for its 25,000 students

Univali, which serves 25,000 students across secondary to doctoral programs, needed a quick, user-friendly way for students to check grades and attendance on mobile devices. Working with GeneXus and powered by GXportal™, the university launched the UnivaliNotas iOS and Android app to replace frequent web lookups and to prevent students from discovering excess absences only after they had already failed.

GeneXus developed UnivaliNotas in three months (a small team of two developers and one designer) and delivered features like real-time grade and attendance views, push notifications when grades are published, grade averages and group comparisons, and a color-coded absence indicator. The app saw 14,500 downloads in its first month (nearly 10,000 in one week), generated strong positive social feedback, and gave students timely visibility into their academic standing — improving awareness and reducing surprises related to absences.
