Case Study: Resona Holdings achieves a rapid branch-system overhaul and halves development time with GeneXus Low‑Code

A GeneXus Case Study

Preview of the Resona Holdings Case Study

Resona Holdings, one of Japan's largest Banks, overhauled its branch system with Low-Code in record time

Resona Holdings, one of Japan’s largest banking groups, faced the challenge of modernizing its branch system to support customer-facing operations, reduce costs, and shift from thousands of dedicated terminals to general-purpose devices. To accelerate development and maintenance while keeping software assets long-term, Resona teamed with NTT DATA/NTT DATA SOFIA and chose the GeneXus Low‑Code development platform to rapidly rebuild branch functionality as web-based terminals.

Using GeneXus, the team delivered an open‑source web application (Linux/PostgreSQL) that performs about 150 transactions and automatically generates the required Java/.NET code, enabling even inexperienced engineers to contribute under agreed standards. GeneXus helped cut development time from an estimated 16 months to 7 months, supported rollout to roughly 450 branches by December 2021, reduced the ~7,000 dedicated terminals to less than half, increased capacity to meet customer needs by 70%, and was deployed as part of a ¥10 billion investment.
