A GeneXus Case Study
Mizuho Bank, working through Mizuho Research & Technologies, needed to rebuild its mission-critical foreign exchange settlement system as SWIFT moved from MT to ISO 20022 and the existing 30-year-old PL/I-based architecture became difficult to maintain, costly to support, and dependent on scarce legacy skills. The bank wanted a modern, stable, open system that would also support greater insourcing and faster change.
GeneXus was selected as the low-code development platform to redesign and rebuild the system, automating application, database, screen, and testing development. GeneXus helped reduce manual coding, cut business logic coding to about 20% of traditional development, and enabled approximately 700 screens to be coded and unit tested in six months. The new Java-based system launched in April 2022 and has operated stably without reported issues, with Mizuho Bank also using GXtest and considering Jenkins for continuous integration and automated regression testing.
