Case Study: Digital Sense achieves rapid nationwide soil sustainability monitoring with GeneXus

A GeneXus Case Study

Preview of the Digital Sense Case Study

National Monitoring System for Crop Sustainability

Digital Sense, a Uruguayan leader in machine vision and machine learning R&D, was commissioned by the government to help enforce a national soil conservation law that requires farms over 100 hectares to submit certified soil management plans. The challenge was to build a nationwide, satellite- and AI-driven system that could integrate GIS, licensing and land records, and automatically detect crop rotation and cover-crop compliance across vast agricultural areas. To build the required backend and rapid prototypes, Digital Sense chose the GeneXus development platform.

Using GeneXus, Digital Sense quickly developed the Administration System of Responsible Land Use and Management Plans, integrating AI image processing, satellite imagery and GIS to calculate slopes, parcel shapes and detect whether fields are planted or fallow. The GeneXus-built backend enabled fast prototyping, seamless integration with national systems and rapid deployment; the system now covers more than 1.5 million hectares and automatically identifies non‑compliant farmers, accelerating enforcement and supporting Uruguay’s agricultural sustainability efforts. GeneXus’s platform let Digital Sense focus on its core machine-vision technology and bring the solution to production much faster.
